History - Aims & Objectives

The Fly Dressers Guild exists to cultivate and promote the art of fly-dressing and welcomes into membership novices, amateurs and professionals alike. No membership qualification is needed other than being interested enough to join. The Guild aims to help the growing number of game fishermen who wish to tie their own flies, and to achieve this by arranging for well-known fly dressers and game fishermen to attend guild meetings to give talks, instruction and help in both fly tying and game fishing topics. The Guild is the foremost authority on fly-dressing in the country and its membership includes very many leading fly-dressers and authors on the subject.

The Cheltenham and Gloucester Branch was founded on 20th April 1982 to provide a fellowship for game fishermen, further promote the sport of game angling and its associated interests and also to support the cause of conservation.

The Cheltenham and Gloucester Branch of the Fly Dressers Guild has developed into a fellowship of game fishermen who have a common desire to gain as much enjoyment from their chosen sport as is humanly possible by sharing their experiences with others.
